History
"You are never given a wish without also being given the power to make it true; You may have to work for it however" - Richard Bach
Humble Beginning:
Divyadeepa initiated its activities in village Srirampura on the outskirts of Mysore during 1992. Condition of the rural school was not up to the mark. Due to illiteracy, ignorance and poverty of the parents, lack of infrastructure in the school, children used to either drop out or fail to reach the desired educational standards. So Divyadeepa started conducting supplementary classes free of cost for the benefit of these children. Gradually other activities were taken up which included sponsoring of children for personality development camps, arranging excursions for village children, creation of library for children, providing teaching aids, sports materials to the children, referring destitute children to other organisations, conducting health camps, free training in Screen Printing, Greeting cards making, tree planting, free yoga classes. Children's response was encouraging.
On 29-3-1999, Divyadeepa became "Divya Deepa Charitable Trust"(Regd.). During this period, Divyadeepa studied the functioning of following Government schools :
- Government school - Srirampura village
- Government school - Mellahalli village
- Government school - Udboor village
Apart from this, Divyadeepa studied the functioning of following non-government
schools :
- Sri Aurobindo International Centre of Education - Pondicherry
- Mysore Public School - A fully residential ICSE school
- School run by Vivekananda Kendra at Kanyakumari
- Poorna Prajna - A non formal learning centre, Mysore
During 2001, Divyadeepa brought out a souvenir containg articles about opportunity deprived children and their education. A devotee of Sri Aurobindo Ashram and a philanthropist visited our organisation and offered to finance the land for the proposed project.
Divyadeepa was awarded Rotary Ramya award for excellence in Social Service in 2002.
Divyadeepa bought the project site in 2003. Divyadeepa occupied the project site in May 2004. In June 2005, "Kaliyuva Mane" - An innovative school was started with a strength of 14 children, 4 residential and rest as day scholars.
Thus a dream turned into vision became a reality
